With the total net worth estimated at 22.4 billion dollars, Ferrero put ahead other Italian entrepreneurs - Leonardo Del Vecchio, the founder of Luxottica and Stefano Pessina, the CEO of Walgreens Boots Alliance, whose fortunes reached respectively 19.8 and 12.4 billion dollars.

The history of Ferrero SpA, known worldwide thanks to Nutella, Kinder chocolates and Ferrero pralines, started in 1946 when Giovanni’s grandfather, Pietro Ferrero, founded a pastry shop, transformed later into a chocolate factory. The company evolved over the years into a globally-known brand, with a turnover of roughly 10.5 billion euros registered in the financial year 2016/2017.

Italian entrepreneur among 100 richest persons in the world

When compared to the global ranking of billionaires, the Italian confectionary tycoon ranked in the 39th position. As in the previous year, the title of the richest men on the planet in 2019 went to Jeff Bezos, the founder and CEO of Amazon. The net wealth of this Albuquerque-born entrepreneur, estimated at 112 billion dollars in 2018, increased to roughly 131 billion dollars in 2019. The second place was achieved by the multiple leader of the Forbes’ ranking, Bill Gates, whose fortune was estimated at 96.5 billion US dollars in 2019.
