Seasonally adjusted number of car registrations in the EU-28 1990-2018 This statistic records the number of new registrations of cars in the European Union's (EU) 28 member countries from 1990 to 2018. After falling sharply in 1992, registrations of cars climbed approximately 15.6 million cars in 1999. Registrations stayed at this level until the financial crisis of 2008 began a decline in car registrations which did not end until 2014, picking up again in the past four years. In 2018, there were approximately 15.3 million new car registrations.
