Global returns on coal investments 2011-2022
In 2022, the rate of return on coal investments was approximately -48.34 percent. This was a considerable decrease compared to the rate of return in 2021. Although the global consumption of coal has been dropping for decades, increased demand for power generation as well as the European gas crisis significantly drove demand for coal in 2021.
