World Cup audience
Italian TV audience interested in the last World Cup has been quite large. The results of a survey conducted in 2018 showed that 74 percent of the audience was going to see the World Cup on TV. The match Belgium vs. Brazil broadcasted by Mediaset during the last World Cup had an audience share of 44.5 percent, while the match Croatia vs. Russia followed with an audience share of 44.3 percent.
The FIFA World Cup is a much renowned sport event, but it is not the one with the highest broadcast rights fees. In the global ranking of rights fees paid by broadcasters, the World Cup ranked last with an estimated value of 440 million euros. To make an example, the football Champions League had by far higher ranking, with an estimated fees value of 1,404 million euros.
