Share of M&A deal volume worldwide 2000-2018, by industry This statistic illustrates the global merger and acquisition (M&A) deals volume in 2000 and 2018, by industry. According to data provided by the Institute for Mergers, Acquisitions and Alliances (IMAA) the highest share of M&A deals took place in the consumer products and services industry. In 2000, 14.5 percent of M&A deals took place in the consumer products and services industry, by 2018 this had increased to 14.7 percent. Software has seen it's share of M&A deals volume fall from 14 percent in 2000 to 7.7 percent as of 2018.
