Sex in Spain - statistics & facts

In Spain, about 41 percent of the population claim that they had sex at least once a week, according to the most recent surveys on sexual behavior in the country. However, this weekly sexual satisfaction does not stop Spaniards from masturbating, with figures indicating that virtually almost everyone in Spain masturbates, 33 percent of them at least once a week, their bedrooms being the most frequent place to practice this sexual habit.

Sexual creativity

When it comes to creativity, young people under 34 are the most receptive to trying new things. This is, for example, represented by the willingness of younger communities to use sex toys – almost 50 percent of Spaniards between the ages of 26 and 34 said that they are open to using these objects to facilitate sexual pleasure. In fact, most sex toy users stated that they masturbated with these devices to enhance or improve their orgasms. By gender, women are more likely than men to purchase and use sex toys. This is a tendency also found among people that identified as LGBT, with a sex toy prevalence of approximately 60 percent.

However, not everyone is as keen to try different sexual practices. As an example, more than 60 percent of the Spanish male and female population had not had any kind of homosexual experience and were not interested in looking for one, an attitude that becomes stronger as the person’s age increases. Among those who did try homosexual intercourse, 18 percent of men would like to relive the experience, compared to only 11 percent of women. Similarly, sadomasochism or S&M practices do not seem to pique interest, with more than 75 percent of the population stating they had never done it and they are fine as is. Of those who did test these waters, only a very low percentage reported they would be willing to repeat the experience.
