German Chancellor Angela Merkel faced off against her main rival, Martin Schulz, in a TV debate on Sunday night. With elections taking place in three weeks and millions of voters still undecided, Schulz has been desperate to close the gap on the CDU and CSU's 17-percentage point lead in the polls, as well as halting a slide in his own popularity.
An infratest poll conducted after the clash gave Merkel a clear victory over her opponent. 55 percent of all viewers found her more convincing, along with 48 percent of undecided voters.
