The National Rifle Association (NRA) is probably one of the most prolific and influential lobbying groups in the United States in convincing lawmakers of the benefits of liberal gun laws. Data collected by the Center for Responsive Politics
shows that even with self-professed pro-gun right President Donald Trump in office, the NRA has spent liberally on lobbying its cause.
While in 2016 the association spent $3.2 million, the expenditure rose to $5.1 million last year. It is also stunning how much more pro-rights interest groups invest overall compared to pro-gun control groups, as shown in the below infographic. However, it is less surprising that most of the gun lobby money goes to Republican lawmakers or the Republican party itself.
