Data from the Statista Global Consumer Survey shows that the Amazon Echo voice-activated smart speaker running the Alexa voice assistant dominates the U.S. market. More than 20 percent of U.S. adults said they owned the system. According to the study conducted in the third quarter of 2020, Google Nest (formerly Google Home) and Apple's HomePod are the only other major players but remained in the single digits. The most popular options outside the big three were Sonos smart speakers as well as Sony and JBL smart speakers, which run on the Google voice assistant, and Lenovo products, which utilize Alexa.
There is still room to grow in the market, however. More than 70 percent of U.S. adults currently don’t own a smart speaker assistant.
