In a 2024 survey of travelers conducted by Booking.com, hotels were found to be the leading form of accommodation used by holidaymakers from Europe's top economies. Spanish travelers were most likely to choose a hotel over any other accommodation choice. By contrast French respondents did not have as strong a preference for hotels compared to the other nations surveyed with less than half indicating that they choose to stay in a hotel.
For the French and most other nationalities, staying with family or in an apartment were the leading alternatives to a hotel, however, for Italians the next most popular alternative was a bed & breakfast.
