Greater China: top 10 online stores by revenue 2018

The biggest online stores in Greater China include domestic players like jd.com, suning.nl and vip.nl, outperforming any other western e-commerce companies such as Amazon or Apple. With a revenue of more than US$60.0 billion, jd.com is leading the Chinese e-commerce market.

Greater China, the growing giant

According to the Statista Digital Market Outlook, the revenue in the chinese B2C e-commerce market amounts to almost US$634.0 billion in 2018. The B2C revenue is expected to show an annual growth rate (CAGR 2019-2023) of 10.9%, resulting in a market volume of US$1, 095 billion by 2023. But not only the first-party online sales are growing, but shopping apps and marketplaces are experiencing as well a tremendous growth. Foreign companies do not play a big role as most of the chinese shoppers buy on local online stores.

JD.com, the chinese Amazon

Jd.com is the largest e-commerce retailer in Greater China. Founded in 2004 in Beijing by Richard Liu, ist CEO, JD.com is a generalist players, offering products across every category (electronics & media, food & personal care, fashion as well as home furnishings and appliances). In 2018 JD.com, Inc. generated a turnover of more than US$67.0 billion and according to China e-commerce Research Center, the group has roughly 30 per cent of the Chinese B2C online market.
