Zomato went public in July 2021 with an IPO worth over 90 billion Indian rupees. In financial year 2021, the company reported revenues from operations of nearly 20 billion rupees.

Since 2014, the company has been ambitious in its acquisitions globally. The most recent one was Uber Eats in January 2020 – creating a duopoly in the food delivery market in the country between Zomato and the leading online food delivery business, Swiggy. During the coronavirus (COVID-19) lockdown, both companies implemented no-contact deliveries of food and essential groceries, improving consumer attitudes towards both brands.

Zomato’s strong delivery support system with numerous partners has made this business model a success, with a presence in more than 500 Indian cities. As of September 2019, Zomato had over 250 thousand restaurant listings. The options of cashless transactions have also influenced the increase in customers over the years, along with retaining existing ones.
