The consumption of primary energy for the production of electricity from renewable waste in France from 2006 to 2021 has steadily dicreased. We learn that in 2017, around 600 kilotons of oil equivalent of primary energy from bio-waste were consumed to generate electricity in France while in 2020 the estimated value was 498 kilotons of oil equivalent.

The Observation and Statistics Service (SOeS) of the Ministry of the Environment, Energy and the Sea (MEEM) defines the renewable waste as follows:" Only the biodegradable part of urban waste (or household waste) incinerated in factories household waste incineration (UIOM) is considered renewable. Due to the difficulty of distinguishing biodegradable waste from other waste, waste recognized as a renewable energy source is estimated by convention at 50% of all urban waste incinerated. "
