Licensed juvenile books share in the U.S. 2019
In 2019, 15 percent of juvenile fiction books in the science and nature category with more than one million unit sales in the United States had a license, and for mystery and detective stories the figure was slightly lower at just 12 percent. If a book is licensed, this means that a publisher has paid the IP (intellectual property) owner for the rights to publish a character or property in book form.
