Impact of COVID-19 on web page visits of home products in the Netherlands March 2020

Online product pages of various home equipment products skyrocketed in March 2020 in the Netherlands. Product page visits of webcams increased by a whopping 2,730 percent, with dumbbells coming a close second, receiving 2,219 percent more visitors between March 11 and 25 than during the two weeks before. The outbreak of COVID-19 in the Netherlands initiated governmental measures that encouraged, and later forced, social distancing and working from home. As a result, Dutch consumers expressed mass interest in home office supplies (webcams, headsets, PC monitors, laptops), fitness products (dumbbells, treadmills) and home entertainment (gaming consoles). The monumental increase in webcam popularity should also be attributed to the closing of schools in the Netherlands, and the subsequent shift to an online learning environment.
