Monthly number of tourist arrivals in Denmark 2019-2021, by type
Facts and Figures page.
The number of tourist arrivals in Denmark declined sharply in 2020 and 2021 over 2019 due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Overall, the pandemic hit international tourism more than domestic travel, as countries worldwide implemented international travel restrictions to limit the spread of the virus. As a result, travel accommodations in Denmark only recorded around seven thousand inbound tourist arrivals and roughly 79 thousand domestic arrivals in April 2020. While domestic arrivals recovered during the summer period, reaching over 1.5 million in August 2020, international arrivals stayed below pre-pandemic levels. Since September 2020, both figures declined again, as new restrictions were enacted due to a rise in COVID-19 infections. As of June 2021, travel accommodations in Denmark reported around 776 thousand domestic arrivals and 123 thousand inbound arrivals.
