Due to travel restrictions during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the number of foreign tourists arriving in Istanbul plunged significantly, especially in April and May 2020, having below one thousand visitors. In 2022, the number of foreign tourist arrivals began to increase again, peaking in June 2023 at over 1.87 million. In April 2024, this figure reached approximately 1.5 million.
