Hops production in France 1961-2018

Hops are an essential ingredient in the production of beer along with malt and yeast. Cultivated almost exclusively in Alsace and to a lesser extent in the North of France, hops give the beer its special bitterness.
Its production in France has fluctuated widely since 1961: in 1964, French farmers produced about 2300 tons of hops and the harvest decreased over the years to reach 700 tons of hops in 1987. Then, French hop production increased again until 2008 and dropped sharply until 2018.
