Annual volume of beer consumed per capita in France 2008-2023

Since 2008, the consumption volume of beer among French people has been increasing only slightly, reaching 33 liters per capita in 2017 and remaining at that spot since then.

  According to recent data French people largely prefer lager beer over the other varieties available on the market. At the bottom of the list are flavored beers, consumed by much fewer people. Craft beers are also gaining in popularity in France, increasing from 200 to 440 million euros in sales revenue between 2016 and 2020.
When consuming beer, it seems that people in France mostly purchase beer in retail stores rather than on-trade (bars, restaurants, etc.): about 65 percent of the beer sales are generated through the off-trade sector.
