Victims of family violence crimes against wives in Russia 2012-2021
Approximately 11.7 thousand women in Russia were victims of domestic violence crimes committed by their spouses in 2021. In total, the number of female victims of family violence offenses in the country exceeded 22.6 thousand in that year. Amendments were made to the country's legislation in 2016 and early 2017 to decriminalize non-aggravated battery and battery within a family that resulted in no serious harm, unless it happened repeatedly.
