Number of TV households in the UK 2004-2018 In 2018, the were over 27 million households in the United Kingdom (UK) that had televisions, a number that has continued to grow annually since 2014. In the UK, the average adult spent almost four hours a day watching TV, with those aged over 65 years spending the most time in front of the box. Compared to other European countries, UK viewers were relatively average in the amount of time spent watching TV.
Leading stations

As of the first quarter of 2019, BBC 1 had a reach of approximately 56 million viewers, over four million more than the next most popular station. Unsurprisingly, the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) had the highest audience share of UK TV broadcasters. In 2018, six of the top ten most watched TV programs involved the football world cup, with the semifinal between England and Croatia being viewed by almost 21 million viewers.

Smart TV

It is now very hard to purchase a new television in the UK without it being smart. As of 2018, the household penetration rate of smart TV sets was over forty percent. Essentially, a smart television is a TV that has a connection to the internet. This then allows viewers to have access to streaming brands such as Netflix, Amazon and Hulu through their TV set.
