EU annual GHG emissions by roughly 32 percent, relative to 1990 levels.
Greenhouse gas emissions in the European Union have decreased across most sectors since 1990, with the exception of transportation. In 2021, domestic transportation emissions amounted to 792 MtCO₂e – nearly 18 percent higher than in 1990. Meanwhile, energy supply emissions have fallen approximately 44 percent during this period to just over 900 MtCO₂e. The reduction in energy supply emissions has helped cut Annual greenhouse gas emissions in the European Union (EU-27) from 1990 to 2021, by sector (in million metric tons of CO₂ equivalent)
