The COVID-19 pandemic that spread across the world in 2020 was not only a big threat to public health, but also to the entire sports industry. Many sports fans were ready to return to arenas to support their favorite team, but a range of safety measure needed to be implemented to ensure the comfort and safety of all involved. During an October 2020 survey in the United States, 38 percent of respondents stated that they would be much more comfortable attending sporting events if fans were required to wear masks.
