Number of oil and gas M&A deals in Africa 2015-2020
As of 2020, 13 merger and acquisition deals were made in the African upstream oil and gas sector. The amount declined by 40 percent in comparison to the previous year, as an effect of the falling demand among the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and the low oil prices. In 2019, the number of deals had already decreased compared to previous years. For instance, 35 M&A deals were done in the African oil sector in 2015 and 2017.
