Types of bad handling of complaints of domestic and sexual violence in France 2021

At the beginning of October 2021, the website of the #DouplePeine collective had already collected more than 220 testimonies from female victims of domestic, sexual, or gender-based violence reporting unpleasant or even traumatic treatment by police forces when filing a complaint. Among the types of mistreatment recorded, a survey by the #NousToutes collective shows that the most frequent case is the trivialization of the facts (more than two thirds of the testimonies), followed by the situation in which the police refuse to take the victim's complaint or try to discourage her.
Although some of the victims reported that they were well taken care of, these types of treatment remain systematic: in two thirds of the cases, the victims reported poor treatment.
