Older people in their 60s were the most likely to have consumed the Korean rice wine makgeolli in the first quarter of 2021 in South Korea. However, sales to younger people in their 20s and 30s saw increases of three to four percent each. This was because makgeolli producers made efforts to appeal to younger generations. Sales at convenience stores in particular grew noticeably.
