Internet users who made weekly online grocery purchases APAC 2022, by country

In 2022, 45.2 percent of internet users in Thailand made an online grocery purchase each week. In contrast, the share of internet users who made weekly online grocery purchases in Japan was 13.7 percent in 2022.

New age of food delivery

The circumstances around the global pandemic have accelerated the development of certain services, including online grocery shopping. With the new age of food delivery, now consumers can do grocery shopping from their homes. This new online service has not become widely available across the Asia-Pacific region yet; however, has gained popularity in many markets. Preference for online grocery shopping in South Korea does not fall behind offline by much. The penetration rate of fresh food e-commerce in China has nearly doubled in the last two years.

Online grocery shopping in Southeast Asia

Online grocery shopping is a thriving industry in the big six countries of Southeast Asia: Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, the Philippines, and Vietnam. Online grocery shopping was the only e-commerce category for which web traffic increased in Vietnam. Fresh foods were of most interest among online grocery types. Overall, the share of people intending to shop for fresh food online in Southeast Asia overwhelm those that do not.
