Wizz Air's carbon dioxide emissions 2018-2023, by month
After the outbreak of COVID-19 in early 2020, airlines around the world were forced to cancel thousands of flights, which had an dramatic impact on aviation emissions. In April 2020, Wizz Air's emissions plummeted more than 95 percent below April 2019 levels to less than 10,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide (tCO₂). Due to strict lockdowns and travel restrictions, monthly emissions remained below 2019 levels for the remainder of 2020 and 2021, and only rose above pre-pandemic levels in April 2022. By April 2023, emissions had rebounded considerably and amounted to 477,788 tCO₂.
