Japan: usage of e-money by age group 2023

According to a survey conducted in April 2023, the share of consumers using FeliCa-based electronic money in Japan was highest among people in their sixties, at 65 percent. FeliCa is a contactless RFID smart card system developed by Sony which is used in IC cards or smartphones, among other devices. It is a common means of payment for public transportation and accepted by convenience stores and vending machines.
