In 2022, cashless payments such as direct debits and bank transfers accounted for around 57.5 percent of the total amount of payments from individual salary accounts of banks in Japan. Credit cards made up the largest share of cashless payments during the same time.

Based on bank accounts of individual customers who received salary or bonus payments at least once during the surveyed period. The statistic shows the ratio of direct deposits and bank transfers to total payments from individual salary accounts of Mizuho Bank, MUFG Bank, Mitsui Sumitomo Banking Corporation, Resona Bank, Saitama Resona Bank, and Japan Post Bank.

Based on the amount of payments which reached 115 trillion Japanese yen in 2022.
