South Korea: national COVID-19 vaccination rate by province 2023

As of February 27, 2023, the province of Jeonnam had the highest coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccination rate in South Korea for all available vaccines. While around 90 percent of people in Jeonnam got the first COVID-19 shot, the national vaccination rate lies below that, at 87.6 percent. Only 13.7 percent of people nationwide have been vaccinated with a bivalent booster, which is more effective against current dominant strains. A total of six provinces have higher vaccination rates than the national average, including the capital city of Seoul.

So-called "winter shots" were initially introduced as another booster in addition to the first and second booster shots (overall the fourth and fifth shots respectively) to preemptively prepare for an anticipation rise in cases during the winter of 2022. As of December 2022, booster shots were discontinued, and any additional shots beyond the first two were merged into the winter shot category to avoid confusion. Winter shots, unlike the previous boosters, use bivalent vaccines, which are more effective for current strains dominating South Korea.
