Carbon budget undershoot by lowest emitters worldwide 2050
In a scenario in which the world achieves net-zero by 2050, it is estimated that many countries will stay far below their fair-share of the global carbon budget, as the top historical emitters appropriate part of their share. India is expected to be the largest undershooting country in this scenario, accounting for roughly 30 percent of carbon budget undershoot. China is forecast to follow, with a share of eight percent. The cumulative compensation owed to carbon undershooting countries by overshooting countries was evaluated at 192 trillion U.S. dollars.
