Mean size of Italian families 2022, by macro-region
In 2022, Italian households were larger in the south and in the islands than in the north of the country. On average, families were constituted only of around 2 members in the north-western regions, while in the south they were formed of 2.4 individuals. However, in the last years, the mean number of people per household decreased in Italy. Between 2010 and 2024, the average size of families ranged from 2.41 to 2.3 components.
