In 2020, the birth rate stood at 7.2 births per 1,000 inhabitants in South Italy, the macro-region with the largest rate nationwide. The Center recorded a birth rate of 6.4, the lowest value displayed in the chart.
The birth rate in the whole country has constantly decreased over the past years – in 2020 6.8 children were born per 1,000 inhabitants, almost three infants less than in 2002.
