In 2021, the demand for motor fuels, motor oil, lubricants, and other refined petroleum products used for transportation reached 24.3 quadrillion British thermal units. Usage of refined petroleum by electric utilities has notably decreased since 1990, with demand coming to 0.2 quadrillion British thermal units in 2021.
