In 2019, 23 of the representatives from Texas in the U.S. House of Representatives were Republicans. This is compared to 13 Texan representatives who were Democrats.
115th Congress
The 116th Congress is the meeting between the United States Senate and House of Representatives commencing January 3, 2019, and ending January 3, 2021. This Congress is sitting during the 2020 presidential election. While the Senate remains controlled by the Republican Party from the 115th Congress, the Democratic Party regained control of the House of Representatives. Aside from the presidential election, probably the most important issue that occurred during the 116th Congress is the impeachment of President Trump by the House of Representatives in December 2019, followed by his acquittal by the Senate in February 2020. Voting in both stages of the impeachment process followed partisan lines, creating controversy over the neutrality of the process. Despite this controversy, a majority of Americans from across the political spectrum still believe that impeachment is an important tool for democracy.
