Digital media is the future
The media industry is a multi-billion dollar market in China. Experts estimated that the size of Chinese media market would approach 360 billion US dollars in 2021, which is twice the market size in a decade ago. One main revenue source in this industry comes from advertisement. In recent years, the distribution of ad spending in China gradually shifted away from traditional media channels towards internet and mobile advertisements. Digital media takes up over half of total ad spending in China. By 2024, advertising spending in China was projected to climb as high as 152 billion U.S. dollars.
Print media industry in China
In China, print media such as newspapers and magazines were on the wane in general. In the recent dacade, the number of newspaper publications in China was declining, coinciding with a constant decrease of the sales volume. On the other side, the number of magazine publications saw a gain of 308 magazines from 2010 to 2020, while the total amount of magazine copies sold reduced by 1.2 billion copies.
