Cosmetic and personal care sales in Norway 2017, by product category

From 2010 to 2017, the Norwegian cosmetic market including skin care, sun care, hair care, decorative cosmetics, fragrances and hygiene products, had an increasing sales value. In 2017, the value was around 11.5 billion Norwegian kroner. During that year, hygiene products made the highest sales value in the domestic cosmetic industry, followed by skin care products and items from the category of decorative cosmetics.    

 Organic hygiene products

  In the category of hygiene products, there is a visible trend of buying especially organic products in Norway. As of 2017, organic hygiene products were sold in retail stores with a value of approximately nine million Norwegian kroner, which was the highest turnover in the period of 2011 to 2017.

Companies in the cosmetics industry

The Norwegian cosmetics industry is very competitive, with many operating companies. Among them, the domestic cosmetics and personal care chain Vita AS had the highest revenue, of nearly 1.3 billion Norwegian kroner as of January 2019. By comparison, the internationally known French company L’Oréal made a slightly lower revenue and ranked second.
