Telefónica enjoys a strong market presence in each of the territories in which it operates, with market shares ranging from 18.3 percent in Mexico to 53.3 percent in Venezuela. Headquartered in Spain, Telefónica operates under both the Telefónica and o2 brand identities.

Telefónica strongest at home

Telefónica’s home market of Spain is the largest single source of revenue for the company, generating 12.77 billion euros in the country during 2019. Germany and the United Kindom (UK) are nearest in terms of overall revenue, generating revenues of 7.4 billion euros and 7.11 billion euros respectively.

Falling ARPU in the United Kingdom

Since 2015, Telefónica has seen a drop in the average revenue per user (ARPU) rate in the UK, falling from 19.4 euros in 2015 to 14.4 euros in 2019. This phenomenon is present across the market in the UK, as the price of mobile services falls. Vodafone, for example, also saw a reduction in average revenue per user (ARPU) of 1.41 British pounds from 2018 to 2020, and the ARPU of all post-paid mobile subscribers in the UK fell by 12.21 British pounds from 2010 to 2020.
