Single-person households without children was the most common type of household in Sweden in 2021. Cohabitating or married couples without children was the second most common household type. It was uncommon in Sweden in 2021 for children aged 25 years or more to cohabitate with their parents.
Age distribution for single-person households by gender
The age distribution of individuals living in single-person households in 2021 differed between men and women. The most common age for single-person households among women was from 75 to 84 years, followed by the age group 65 to 74 years, while the highest number of single-person household among men was found among those between 25 and 34 years of age.
