Joint-stock corporations that were not controlled by the government sector was the largest sector in Sweden in 2020 terms of number of employees. Nearly 2.9 million people were employed in this sector. The second largest sector was the primary government sector, with nearly 892,000 employees. Roughly 267,000 were employed in the central government sector.
