Italy: leading luxury goods companies 2017, by sales

In 2016, Luxottica topped the ranking of Italian companies active in the production and distribution of luxury goods based on worldwide sales. With over ten billion euros worth of sales, Luxottica was way ahead all other companies in the ranking. Runner-up Prada, for example, registered a sales value of 3.5 billion.

Luxottica owns the eyewear industry

Founded in 1961 in a small town in the Italian Dolomites, the Luxottica Group is the world's largest eyewear company. The company designs, manufactures and distributes high-end, luxury and sports eyewear with a brand portfolio that includes names such as Ray-Ban, Oakley and Persol. The international expansion has allowed the Group to be present all over the world with a retail network of about 9.1 thousand stores.

North America loves Luxottica‘s eyewear

With net sales reaching over 5.1 billion euros in 2018, North America is Luxottica’s main market, making up almost 60 percent of the total sales. In comparison, the European market accounted for just 21 percent of the Group’s total net sales that year.
