Distribution of male & female characters in top-grossing films 2021, by ethnicity
In 2021, nearly 65 percent of all male characters appearing in the top 100 highest-grossing films in the United States were white. Among female characters, the share stood below 61 percent. That same year, around 61 percent of lead actors in U.S. movies were white.
