Gender distribution of directors in media in the U.S. 2019
According the most recent data, just 4.8 percent of directors of the highest grossing movies between 2007 and 2019 were female, compared to 34.5 percent of directors of narrative independent films. Data shows that women are outnumbered when it comes to director roles, with just 10.6 percent of all movies released in 2019 having been directed by women.
