Average weekly unpaid overtime worked by NHS England staff 2020-2021
According to surveys conducted in 2020 and 2021, the majority of NHS staff in England worked additional unpaid hours. In 2021, roughly 43 percent of NHS staff worked up to five hours of unpaid overtime in an average week. Furthermore, ten percent of NHS staff stated to work six to ten unpaid hours a week and over four percent 11 hours or more. Compared to 2020, the share of NHS staff that stated to work unpaid hours increased.
