Of the leading ten technology companies worldwide based on market capitalization, Samsung is the company producing the most scope 3 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions at nearly 120 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (MTCO2e), based on the company's most recent 2023 figures. Intel came in second for scope 3 emissions at just over 23 million MTCO2e in 2022. Scope 3 emissions are all indirect emissions (not included in scope 2) that occur somewhere in the firm's value chain. This is typically the most extensive section for emissions compared to the other scopes and can be the most difficult to quantify.

The figures are based on the most recently published sustainability or corporate governance reports of the respective companies.

A company's GHG emissions are classified into three scopes:
Scope 1 is any direct emissions from the firm itself within their control. This includes emissions associated with fuels, heating sources, and company-owned vehicles.
Scope 2 is any indirect emissions resulting from the generation of purchased energy (e.g., electricity).
Scope 3 is all indirect emissions (not included in scope 2) that occur somewhere in the firm's value chain. This is typically the largest section for emissions and can be the most difficult to quantify.

Company emissions data is from 2023 unless specified otherwise.
