Most popular types of vehicles in FinlandThe largest segment of motor vehicle registrations in Finland comprises passenger cars. Although petrol and diesel have accounted for the highest share of passenger cars on the road by fuel type, electric and hybrid vehicles have seen annual increases from 2016 onwards.
The number of electric passenger cars in traffic use has grown significantly over the past few years, reaching just over 77 thousand in 2021. Since 2015, the number of plug-in hybrid passenger cars has been increasing. At the same time, all-electric passenger cars numbers have been growing at a slower rate. The most sold car models are medium-sized, but sport utility vehicles (SUVs) are becoming increasingly popular among Finns.
