New passenger car registrations in Finland 2011-2021
During the last ten years, the automotive industry has experienced ups and downs in Finland with fluctuating numbers of newly registered passenger cars. However, the figures have remained relatively stable for the past few years until 2020. In 2021, around 98.5 thousand passenger cars were registered, nearly 2.1 thousand more than the year before.
Decline in the registrations of new diesel cars
While the sales figures of new passenger cars have remained stable in recent years, the same cannot be said about registrations of new diesel-fueled passenger cars, which decreased drastically in the year 2021. Registrations of new electric cars showed an opposite trend, increasing by around four thousand units since 2016.
Tesla Motors leading as the brand with most electric cars in traffic
The increase of electric passenger car registrations in Finland can be partially marked as a success of Tesla Motors, which ranked as the leading brand in the number of electric passenger cars on the road. Tesla widened the gap with competitors, as the brand hit record high car sales in 2021.
