In a ranking of Asia’s fine dining hotspots, a Tokyo restaurant took the top prize this year. Den, which draws inspiration from Japanese Kaiseki dining but also has international influences, was awarded the title of Asia’s Best Restaurant in a Best 50 ranking by business magazine William Reed Business Media.
Yet, Bangkok was the city most prominently featured on the top 10 list with four dining spots located in the Thai capital. Tokyo and Hong Kong were both included twice.
While most mentioned Japanese restaurants showcase a mix of Japanese food and international influences, one restaurant located in Bangkok and featured on the list offers a surprising type of cuisine: Sühring is run by twins from Berlin and serves up modern German fare. In a twist of events, the highest listed German restaurant on the Best 50 restaurants global list (rank 31) specializes in Asian fusion cooking and is located in – Berlin.
The fine foods offered in restaurants currently ranked on any of the publication’s lists don’t come cheap. An dinner at Asia’s best restaurant Den starts at $166 per person including tax and fees.
