When it comes to outfitting our living spaces with connected technology, high-tech enthusiasm takes a backseat to everyday practicality. According to data from Statista Consumer Insights, making life easier is by far the leading motivator for U.S. consumers, with 40 percent agreeing that this is what they look for in a smart home.
Efficiency and peace of mind follow closely behind: Nearly a third of respondents say they love making their home more efficient, while a quarter feel safer having a smart home setup. Other motivations include constantly hunting for new gadgets or wanting to control everything via smartphone. While roughly one in six respondents even go as far as considering their smart home setup a hobby, mainstream adoption is largely driven by the desire for simplicity, security and convenience.
